Gildas Kitsune Club Night Mix – A Must Have

The past two years saw Kitsune’s young protégés Two Door Cinema Club explode onto the live circuit, their infectious indie pop squatting the airwaves and their debut album ‘Tourist History’ selling like hot cakes in excess of 300,000 copies. And with more soon to be released long players from the likes of east London’s Is Tropical and France’s Housse de Racket, the stylish Parisian label is showing the world it sure can break some major rock bands these days. Now don’t start imagining Kitsuné’s deserted the dancefloor.
Very much the contrary in fact as it has started to set up Kitsuné Club Nights all over the world, a new unique concept bringing together an exciting and diverse DJ team including some of its most gifted collaborators and artists (Logo, BeatauCue, Jerry Bouthier, Gildas, Icona Pop) To celebrate this occasion label head honcho Gildas Loaec is releasing on July 18th a digital mix aptly titled ‘Gildas Kitsuné Club Night Mix’, which compiles some of the hottest tracks currently in his highly prized dj wallet (‘one of the five most influential ARs in the world said Mixmag). Apart from the aforementioned hotly tipped latest recruits Is Tropical and Housse de Racket, respectively remixed here by Moonlight Matters and Briefs, the mix includes songs by Polarsets, Cosmonaut and Nightbox, some of the imprint’s latest indie-dance groundbreaking discover ies (as developed in Kitsuné Maison 11).
Fast furious is often how you would describe Gildas’ deejaying, with enough poptastic u-turns at the right time and the right place, so for sure his beloved rockin’ weapons haven’t been forgotten here. For proof Database’s super disco “Vice II”, Para One’s mental acid-house remix of Hey Today! ‘Minor’, Jerry Bouthier’s edit of In Flagranti’s curiously weird ‘Inter- disciplinary’ or, slightly deeper but as lethal, Azari III’s remix of Creep ‘Days’ (including The XX’s Romy on vocals, no less).
That’s not to say lighter moments aren’t to be found on this rather eclectic mix – hey, this is Kitsuné, what do you expect? Yuksek (under his Peter guise) and The Magician’s first track to see the light of day ‘Twist’ (already creating a stir among djs), Jupiter’s last single ‘Saké’ (funkily remixed by Blackjoy), Logo’s dead catchy hook-up with the Icona Pop girls ‘Luvsick’, Poolside’s delicious ‘Do You Believe’ remixed by hot shot Jacques Renault Nu disco? Yeah kind of, but Kitsuné-style, which always means with a zest of cool, fresh pop and certainly no boundaries to get trapped in. Not forgetting yet another ace remix of Two Door Cinema Club ‘Something Good Can Work’ by Australia’s Mitzi; and last but not least, new Belgian act Shindu with its awe- some cover of Siouxsie The Banshees ‘Happy House’.
Now that’s what we call a killer tune and as a result have rushed its release so it coincides with the start of the summer.
