Wiltshire, in southern England, is surrounded by six counties. Beautiful chalk hills and broad valleys are home to many tourist attractions. Visiting Wiltshire, you need to choose a hotel that will be your base and Boisdale Lamb at Hindon can be the right place.

If you ask yourself what’s on in Wiltshire, you have a variety of places to choose from. Salisbury International Arts Festival is held annually in May and is usually on a specific topic. Many events are free, in particular on the May Bank Holiday. There are also many markets and concerts throughout the region at any time of the year. Wiltshire and Salisbury offers plenty of going on.

The city of Salisbury is popular for its gothic architecture, cathedral and environs. The church itself is impressive and the spire 404 meters high easily dominates the landscape.

Salisbury Plain is the site of the Stonehenge known about by people all over the world. It is visible from the main A303 road to the west. The plain is also the place the British army is trained at.

Near the city of Salisbury is Wilton, the prior county town of Wiltshire. The city is known for a fantastic stately home, still occupied by the family of Pembroke. It has a really remarkable double cube room and beautiful gardens that are used as a fun playground for children. Tourists can look at an elegant Palladian bridge and an impressive art collection.

A little further on is the National Trust property of Stourhead. These gardens are beautiful throughout the year but in autumn the leaves of different colors look absolutely fantastic. The ruined castle of Wardour looks very impressive on a foggy morning.

These are just some of the places worth sightseeing, so do not limit yourself to Stonehenge. Wiltshire is a county ideal for exploring and should be on everyone’s list of places to go.
