Amy Winehouse Cancels Rest Of European Tour

Written on June 21, 2011 by Lucy Coughlan

Following a rather miserable showing in Belgrade, Serbia on Saturday, Amy Winehouse has decided to cancel the rest of her 12-city European summer concert tour, her spokesman said Tuesday.

Chris Goodman said Winehouse, who has long had struggles with drug and alcohol abuse, is withdrawing from all scheduled performances to focus on recovering.

Winehouses show in Belgrade on Saturday kicked off what was supposed to be a comeback-style tour across Europe with planned dates in Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Poland, Hungary and Romania.

In what must have been a depressing scene, Winehouse was booed loudly by the fans as she bumbled and stumbled around the stage, unable to remember the lyrics to her songs. A handful of videos spotlighting her erratic behavior onstage circulated the net quickly, sadly highlighting the fact that the singers battle against her demons continues on.

Winehouse, 27, commenced her tour in the Serbia capital following a brief stay at the Priory, a London clinic that offers treatment for addiction problems.

With audience members enraged about their good money wasted for such a mess, the Serbian media went completely off the rails in covering all angles of the Winehouse show debacle; according to the AP, they called the concert a scandal, with the Blic daily labeling it as the worst in the history of Belgrade.

The tour had been due to end in Bucharest, Romania on Aug. 15.

Everyone involved wishes to do everything they can to help her return to her best and she will be given as long as it takes for this to happen, Goodman said.

Winehouses breakthrough album, 2006s Back to Black, won her five Grammy Awards and massive stardom. That feels like 100 years ago.
