Concert Picks: Anamanguchi, Big Talk, iceage…

Written on July 20, 2011 by Lucy Coughlan

Its that time of week again, and we couldnt be happier. From the stuff that video game fantasies are made of to music festivals and new musical ventures, weve a colorful musical line up for you this weekend. Nows the time to make the best of the summer weather and use whatever energy you have left from the past few days to enjoy yourselves thoroughly, but dont take our word for it. Take a gander at our concert picks below:

  • Anamanaguchi | Friday, July 22 | 8:00 pm | 16+ | $12 | Music Hall of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY Map | The indie electronic chiptune band from New York has made us simultaneously embrace childhood memories of killing our eyes in front of the TV screen (thanks to our good ol SNES) and rock out unapologetically. The wholly instrumental synth-driven compositions which you can also listen to while playing the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game  are, in a word, phenomenal. We love. • Big Talk | Friday, July 22 | 8:30 pm | 21+ | $15 | The Satellite, Los Angeles, CA Map | Uber new band formations are our favorite (okay, one of many favorites). Including the talents of The Killers drummer Ronnie Vannucci, Jr., and Taylor Milne, Big Talks debut album was released this past Tuesday and they will be taking the stage at Jimmy Kimmel Live on the 25th of this month but why wait when you can see them up close and personal tonight, thats our question. With Most Thieves for more information, call (323) 661-4380.
  • Wild Flag (and more) | Saturday, July 23 | 9:00 pm | $5 | Wicker Park Fest, on the North Stage, Milwaukee Ave between North Ave and Wood St Map | This full-fledged female quartet consists of a wealth of talent featured in many a band, including but not limited to Helium, The Minders, Croissant Cocktail, and Sleater-Kinney. And were not at all exaggerating when we say that the track Glass Tambourine blows our mind away. Yeah. See them. Check out the festivals official MySpace for full line up and ticket information.
  •  Nobodys Darlings | Saturday, July 23 | 10:30 pm | 21+ | $20 | Mercury Lounge, New York, NY Map | A surge of rock with a dash of pop and perhaps a little dirt under the fingernails (symbolically, were sure their fingernails are immaculate) is what you get from the Georgia-based outfit. Theirs is a catchy, but gritty alternative sound that gives no other option but to stick with you for a while. Buy Tickets
  • iceage | Sunday, July 24 | 10:00 pm | 18+ | $10 | The Echo, Los Angeles, CA Map | Noisy? Check? Structured? Double-check? Ringing in our ears, fluttering in our chests? Triple-check. The ultra punk outfit from Copenhagen, Denmark, are young (18 to 19 years old) and with an enviable energy that were only hoping is contagious. Their debut LP, New Brigade, has yet to make a sizable splash in the States but were pretty positive that it wont take long. Say it with us now: con-ta-gious. With Cult of Youth, Geisha Girls - Buy Tickets

Those are our picks and were sticking to em. Whos on you To See List this weekend?
