Plans call for roughly 1,000 boats of various sizes to gather June 3 for an unprecedented tribute to the queen, who is marking the 60th year of her reign.
The flotilla will be over seven miles long and include barges on which original works composed for the jubilee will be performed. The event is planned to celebrate Britain’s fabled maritime history.
The queen, her husband Prince Philip and other senior royals _ likely including Prince William and his wife, the former Kate Middleton _ will travel on board a royal barge, The Spirit of Chartwell, an opulent cruising vessel that regularly plies the River Thames.
The barge will be decorated with flowers from the queen’s gardens, with an emphasis on the royal colors, red, gold and purple.
Pageant Master Adrian Evans said the royal barge “must be a jewel _ the most magnificent vessel in the flotilla.”
Organizers say the flotilla, one of the largest ever assembled on the river, will include rowboats, working vessels and pleasure craft.

Singer-songwriter Katy Perry will lend her “distinctive talents, style and personality” to the virtual world of The Sims through an extensive collaboration with Electronic Arts, the computer game company said Tuesday.
“I always like to think of myself as a cartoon, and now I’m a Sim,” Perry said in the news release announcing the deal.
Perry has been a Sims fan for several years, Electronic Arts Worldwide Executive of Music Steve Schnur said.
“No performer could better represent the humor and fun of The Sims brand,” Schnur said.
Perry’s hit “Hot and Cold,” featured in The Sims 2 series, is the most popular Simlish music video, he said.
“The Sims Studio plans to develop multiple games within The Sims franchise featuring special Katy Perry themed in-game content and virtual goods,” the company said. Read full post…

“Hello Hello Baby Blue!” begins their official statement, which was released last night and includes a few notable pieces of information. First, Gwyneth Paltrow was totally right: The name is Blue Ivy, not Ivy Blue. Second, Blue Ivy was delivered “naturally,” meaning those C-section reports are not to be believed. (We guess? Maybe Jay and Bey have a broader definition of natural.) And third, the birth was “emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven.” Aw, time to listen to “Glory Feat. B.I.C.” again.

Fred Prouser/ReutersShowtime has been promoting “House of Lies” for what seems like the better part of a year, so there was a lot of anticipation for Sunday night’s series premiere.
But the show, about a team of management consultants led by Marty (Oscar-nominated actor and executive producer Don Cheadle), crammed a lot of plot into the first episode. So much so that there really wasn’t any time left for two of Marty’s employees, played by Ben Schwartz and Josh Lawson, to shine.
Much of the focus was on Marty himself. It’s not entirely clear from the promos, but after watching the show, Cheadle is perfectly cast as the slick Marty Kaan. Read full post…
