Written on November 25, 2011 by Lucy Coughlan

Lauren Alaina joins the club of artists who forget the lyrics to national anthem. The “American Idol” runner-up was giving “The Star-Spangled Banner” a try at Green Bay vs. Detroit game on Thanksgiving and she almost failed in the middle of the song.

The 17-year-old looked visibly nervous before starting the performance. She went completely silent for about 5 seconds after singing, “What so proudly we hailed, through the…” Meanwhile, the audience went on with the song, giving Alaina the chance to get back in track.

With a smile on her face, Alaina finished the song just fine and got cheered by the sold-out stadium. “It’s all about how you finish,” FOX broadcaster Joe Buck said.

Nickelback Gets Muted Reaction At Lions Game

Written on November 24, 2011 by Dylan Ferguson

After 55,723 signatures voted to replace Nickelback’s halftime performance for Thursday’s Lions-Packers game in Detroit, the sometimes derided band still took the stage.

And, according to USA Today, it seems some in the stands didn’t really mind.

The rock band performed their new single, “When We Stand Together,” complete with fireworks and 1,000 local dancers in the background.

The paper observes that while the crowd’s reaction wasn’t overjoyed, more outcry was shown for the Lions’ pre-halftime plays than the group’s act.

Prior to Thursday’s game though, the protest on the Web was so furious that Funny or Die took the opportunity to turn the outrage into a parody.

In the online petition, Lions fans pleaded with the National Football League to rethink the halftime show, claiming that having Nickelback perform “is completely unfair to those of us who purchased tickets to the game. Read full post…

Huntsman Takes Break From NH Campaign For SNL Appearance

Written on November 17, 2011 by Koby Jeffery

Jon Huntsman, the back-of-the-pack presidential candidate campaigning almost exclusively in New Hampshire, took to NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” for some self-deprecating punch lines this weekend.

“Here’s something you never hear at debates: Gov. Huntsman, the first question is for you,” SNL star Seth Meyers said by way of introduction during the “Weekend Update” segment of the program.

When asked about his rock-bottom polling numbers, Huntsman said he was glad just to be on the chart.

“Just a few months ago, we were polling at the margin error, so to have any digit at all is a pretty big deal,” Huntsman said.

The candidate — who has pinned virtually his entire campaign on winning the first-in-the-nation primary in New Hampshire — poked a little fun at his Granite State obsession.

“Seth, I love all of America, from Dallas, Texas to Manchester, New Hampshire. Read full post…

Tom Cruise Reacts To ‘One Shot’ Casting Criticism

Written on November 16, 2011 by Dylan Ferguson

(CNN) — When it comes to adapting a book for film, one of the largest issues is how to find a lead that will do the material justice while also keeping in mind the physical traits fans have memorized.

That dilemma crops up time and time again, from Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” to who would play Steve Jobs in a potential movie, but the challenge was no less apparent than with the casting of Tom Cruise as Lee Child’s statuesque Jack Reacher.

The 6 feet 5 inch retired military cop, who weighs in at 250 pounds in the books, will be played by shorter leading man Cruise in the upcoming “One Shot.” When news was announced over the summer, fans were not pleased.

In an interview with Empire magazine, Cruise admits that he is “very sensitive” to the casting debate.

“This is Lee’s book and Lee’s character,” the 49-year-old actor says. Read full post…
